MTV released the first trailer for its upcoming documentary on the recent celeb-stacked Kilimanjaro climb that raised awareness about the need for clean drinking water in impoverished parts of the world. One thing is clear after watching the footage. This was no cakewalk. Jessica Biel, Lupe Fiasco, Emile Hirsch, Isabel Lucas and other celebs all appear as if they’ve been pushed near the breaking point as they trudge up the side of the imposing mountain with a climbing party of roughly 300 people. Headaches, scrapes, bruises and exhaustion all look par for the course for the climbers. MTV plans to air the entire documentary March 14. Ethiopian-born musician Kenna organized the climb after learning that his father had suffered from water-borne illnesses throughout much of his childhood, and many Ethiopians still travel long distances to secure clean drinking water. Kenna conceived of the socially-conscious Summit on the Summit after failing to climb the formidable mountain in 2007.
The entire celeb climbing team made it up Kilimanjaro last month. They had to chow down on extra food as they needed between 5,000 and 10,000 calories per day to keep their strength up. Here’s a full list of the celeb climbers. * Jessica Biel |
