WYNNUM’S waveless foreshore has become an ideal location for the makers of the new Aussie movie A Heartbeat Away. Next Monday (March 1st) will see a crew of 50 and a cast of more than 20 on Wolsey Pde filming scenes for the $7million movie. Producer Chris Fitchett said the six-week filming process had begun two weeks ago. “The story is set in a fictional fishing village, so we wanted somewhere that wasn’t a surf beach but has a feel of a fishing town,” Fitchett said. The story, written seven years ago, features an aspiring rock guitarist who is forced to take over the musical direction of his father’s marching band. A Heartbeat Away also features Isabel Lucas, of Transformers fame, Colin Friels, who has starred in several Australian television series including Water Rats, and newcomer to the big scene Sebastian Gregory. “Isabel is obviously a star and Sebastian is a rising star,” Fitchett said. “We are very lucky to have an all-Australian cast.”
Lucas took a break from filming to attend New York Fashion Week with Melissa George and Naomi Watts, but word has it she is now back in Brisbane. “It’s a local story and uses images of the surrounds that people are familiar with,” Fitchett said about filming in Brisbane. “The weather is always a challenge.” Fitchett said he had “a really good feeling” in regards to the future of film. “I hope it could go on to be the next Strictly Ballroom or Muriel’s Wedding… I think it will appeal to audiences worldwide.” A Heartbeat Away is expected to be released in cinemas next year. |
