Support Sea Shepherd
Sea Shepherd Conservation Society (SSCS) is an international non-profit, marine wildlife conservation organization. Our mission is to end the destruction of habitat and slaughter of wildlife in the world's oceans in order to conserve and protect ecosystems and species.
Sea Shepherd could not think of a more brave, passionate and dedicated activist and friend of the whales, than Isabel Lucas, also known for her role in Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. Isabel has stepped up for duty for the oceans numerous times, including raising international awareness by attempting to stop annual slaughter of dolphins in Taiji, Japan in 2007.
"I find it tricky to make plans. I go by intuition. Work-wise, that means asking myself if a role will push me outside my comfort zone, challenge me to learn something new. It's [all down to] instinct and gut.

A huge CONGRATULATIONS goes to Isabel and the Summit On The Summit team who today reached the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro, in their quest to raise awareness of the global water crisis! They reached the massive height of 19,340ft.
Photos, tweets, info etc are available in the usual places, linked in previous updates.
Once again, a big congratulations to Isabel and the team – I’m so proud of her for doing this and I admire her even more for it. She really is an inspiration! Hopefully the efforts of her and the team will have a positive effect and more attention can be directed at helping to solve the water crisis.
Remember that you can do your bit by sponsoring a foot (I think it’s still possible to do that, even now they’ve reached the summit) – just $2 can provide 5 days worth of clean water for someone. Just visit the official site to sponsor and find out more.
Jessica Biel, Emile Hirsch and Isabel Lucas trudged through a blizzard Monday on the fifth day of their hike with other entertainers and activists up 19,340-foot Mt. Kilimanjaro.
“It’s pretty gnarly,” Elizabeth Gore, an executive with the United Nations Foundation, and one of the participants of the trek to raise awareness of global water issues, tells PEOPLE by satellite phone. “The visibility is only 10 feet in front of you. And it’s cold. I’ve got six layers on.”
With just a day left of climbing before hitting the summit of the Tanzanian mountain, the group reached 16,000 feet, causing many to experience headaches and stomach problems due to the high altitude.
“We’re on the hardest route at the fastest pace, but no one has turned back,” she says. “It’s pretty kick ass that all of the climbers have made it all the way. We’re all trying to help each other get to the top.”
Izzy is now at 14,866ft on her Mt Kilimanjaro climb! Her fellow climbers are at similar levels, with some being just above 14,900ft. They’re now two days away from the summit – how incredible is that?!
The climbers have now reached 14,298ft in their trek up Mount Kilimanjaro! I haven’t been online much today so haven’t had time to look through all the pictures and videos, but visit summitonthesummit.com to keep up with the very latest, follow their twitter at @SOTSK and of course follow ILO’s twitter @IsabelLucasILO where I have re-tweeted all the Isabel-relevant tweets.
Photos, screencaps and vids will be posted here next update …
Celebrities from the entertainment field, including actors Jessica Biel and Emile Hirsch, are climbing 19,340-foot Mount Kilimanjaro to raise awareness about global shortages of drinking water and to raise money for UNHCR and other humanitarian agencies.
The party set off on Thursday afternoon on the Lemosho route and reached the Shira Camp, where they spent their first night at more than 11,000 feet on Africa’s highest mountain. They expect to reach the summit at Uhuru Peak on Tuesday morning before heading back down the mountain.
Those climbing alongside Biel and Hirsch include rapper Lupe Fiasco, conservationist and explorer Alexandra Cousteau, environmentalist Kick Kennedy, award-winning photographers Michael Muller and Jimmy Chin, singer Santi White and actress Isabel Lucas.
After another day of walking, the Summit On The Summit climbers have now reached 11,841ft! According to the official site: “The climbers are sleeping after a drive up from 7,000ft through the rainforest area. Check back in a few hours for new content as they climb.” I’m not entirely sure exactly when they started and what the timezones are, but I think this marks the 2nd day of climbing.
The official site is loading a bit slowly for more today, so I can’t check for new photos at the moment. Yesterday’s photos – plus anything else I find – will be added here soon though.
At the People’s Choice Awards held in Los Angeles last night, they featured a video link with the Summit On The Summit Mt Kilimanjaro climbers, including Isabel! I don’t know whether it was live or not, but from the looks of them in comparison to the photos on the official SOTS site I’d say it was filmed yesterday.
As awards host Queen Latifah said, for the first time ever, the People’s Choice Awards had an official charity, which was/is the Children’s Safe Drinking Water. She then explained that the SOTS team were climbing Mt Kili to raise awareness of the need for safe drinking water, and a tiny video of Kenna and the team thanking the PCA’s for talking about the clean water crisis was shown.
Thanks to the wonderful Brianne, we have screencaps and a clip of the video link for you! The screencaps are in the Gallery now, and a video will be added here shortly.
Isabel and the rest of the Summit On The Summit team have started their climb of Mount Kilmanjaro! According to the official site they are now somewhere between 4,000-4,500ft! You can track their progress, and see photos, videos and tweets from their journey at summitonthesummit.com.
There are already some nice photos of them all there, with the latest photo showing them visiting the Massai people in Tanzania.
You can read more about the climbers and the causes at the official site.
