Isabel has stepped up for duty for the oceans numerous times, including raising international awareness by attempting to stop annual slaughter of dolphins in Taiji, Japan in 2007.

At the start of the year I posted articles about Immortals being one of the most anticipated movies of 2011, and we now have a few more similar lists, with A Heartbeat Away being included as well! Looks like Immortals may be a big one … ;)

The Notable Films Of 2011: Part Six

A Heartbeat Away
Opens: 2011
Cast: Sebastian Gregory, William Zappa, Tammy McIntosh, Colin Friels, Roy Billing
Director: Gale Edwards

Summary: A young aspiring rock guitarist is forced to become the musical director of the local marching band when his father is hit by a bus just four weeks before a major competition.

Analysis: Hoping to achieve the same success that “Bran Nue Dae” had early last year, this Queensland-produced $8 million Australian comedy/musical boasts a familiar scenario that hopes to draw in local audiences not keen on the limited release art house fare that constitutes most Australian films released locally. Certainly the trailer feels like a hybrid of “Brassed Off” with a teen romance musical about a young geek and the girl way out of his league.

Acclaimed stage director Gale Edwards makes her directorial debut on the feel good film so one would expect the musical numbers to be staged impressively, how she’ll do with the rest of the story we’ll have to wait and see. Hoyts Distribution will be giving the film a wide release across Australia in March, and its fortunes internationally will probably depend a lot upon how that goes.

A Heartbeat Away poster The first poster and some nice new stills from Isabel’s next theatrical release, A Heartbeat Away, have recently been released! One of the new stills is quite similar to one of the older stills we have, but the new one is all new and shows Isabel’s character Mandy walking alongside the band down a pier. The poster is also really nice, and has quite an old fashioned feel to it. Seeing as that poster doesn’t feature our Isabel, I’ve only added it to this post, rather than the Gallery itself.

A Heartbeat Away is set for release in Australia on March 3rd 2011! Hopefully Isabel will go back to Australia to promote it then.

Thanks to the awesome Sam I have exclusive scans from the May issue of Cleo for you! It features a fun and different photoshoot alongside a new, long and very interesting interview, in which Izzy talks about everything including how she was discovered, life in LA, the dance scenes in A Heartbeat Away, being single and much more! It’s a really great read. I’ve also added some outtakes from this photoshoot plus another, older photoshoot. Thanks goes to the equally awesome Nina for these photoshoots and providing Cleo scans as well – really appreciate it!

As I said, these scans are exclusive to Isabel Lucas Online, so please do not re-post them elsewhere. You are welcome to post a link back to the site or gallery album to share the scans, but do not repost the images themselves.

WYNNUM’S waveless foreshore has become an ideal location for the makers of the new Aussie movie A Heartbeat Away. Next Monday (March 1st) will see a crew of 50 and a cast of more than 20 on Wolsey Pde filming scenes for the $7million movie. Producer Chris Fitchett said the six-week filming process had begun two weeks ago.

“The story is set in a fictional fishing village, so we wanted somewhere that wasn’t a surf beach but has a feel of a fishing town,” Fitchett said.

The story, written seven years ago, features an aspiring rock guitarist who is forced to take over the musical direction of his father’s marching band.

A Heartbeat Away also features Isabel Lucas, of Transformers fame, Colin Friels, who has starred in several Australian television series including Water Rats, and newcomer to the big scene Sebastian Gregory.

“Isabel is obviously a star and Sebastian is a rising star,” Fitchett said. “We are very lucky to have an all-Australian cast.”

According to A Heartbeat Away Director Gale Edwards, theatre directors can make a “wonderful” transition into film if they learn about the collaboration process it requires.

“Sam Mendes had a wonderful transition, and so did Stephen Daldry, so we’re following a course which is not uncommon anymore. Theatre directors are directing more and more films around the world,” she said.

Edwards, who has directed musicals such as The Boy From Oz and Sweeney Todd and won an Emmy for her filmed version of Jesus Christ Superstar, is currently shooting her debut feature, the musical comedy A Heartbeat Away, in Queensland.

“It’s a very exciting journey for me and I feel thrilled to have the opportunity and take this new direction in my career.

“I feel like a duck taken to water, completely at home. I’ve always loved working with actors, and I love the process of shooting a film, the possibilities the camera offers, and the degree to which I can control the storytelling,” said Edwards.

However, Edwards is aware that not all theatre directors have successful transitions, and that the medium requires a high level of collaboration.

SHE has played a robot and a vampire in big-budget blockbusters, now Hollywood hottie Isabel Lucas will put on her dancing shoes as the leading lady in Aussie flick A Heartbeat Away.

The Transformers star was hard at it last week, first filming some steamy scenes opposite rising Aussie actor Sebastian Gregory in Brisbane, then flying off to New York to sit front-row with fellow Aussie actor Naomi Watts at Calvin Klein’s autumn fashion show.

Lucas will head back Down Under early this week to show off some fancy footwork in director Gale Edwards’ musical comedy.

The story revolves around an aspiring rock guitarist (Gregory) who is forced to take over the musical direction of his father’s marching band.

Lucas, who has just been travelling the globe promoting action-packed thriller Daybreakers, will play Gregory’s love interest.

Other cast members include Colin Friels, William Zappa and Tammy McIntosh, with Underbelly’s Roy Billing also tipped to play a part.

Filming will wrap up late next month, with the movie due to be released next year.

Lucas recently finished filming Red Dawn in Detroit, alongside fellow Aussie – and her one-time boyfriend – Chris Hemsworth.

The first photos of Izzy on the set of her new movie, A Heartbeat Away, have surfaced online today, and I have added them to our Gallery! Izzy looks gorgeous! I’m really glad she’s doing another Aussie movie, rather than moving to Hollywood for good. I reckon/hope she’ll continue to get lots of offers on both sides of the ocean and I also think she has a good head on her when deciding what to work on. What do you think?!
