A few weeks ago it was revealed that the first footage from Immortals would be shown at WonderCon and that Isabel would be in attendance for it. A full schedule for the event has now been released, and here is the bit about the Immortals event:
SATURDAY, APRIL 2

Meet visionary director Tarsem Singh (The Cell, The Fall) and an all-star cast including Henry Cavill, Kellan Lutz, Luke Evans, and Isabel Lucas. AdelaideNow.com.au have posted a new interview with Isabel to promote A Heartbeat Away. As well as that new film, Isabel also talks about Immortals, her life in LA, making movies in LA and Australia, and travelling. Read it in our Press section!
Isabel Lucas is singing a new tune
SHE has a key role in the new Australian musical A Heartbeat Away and recently popped up on YouTube performing a duet with US actor-musician Lukas Haas, but Isabel Lucas says the closest she has come to live singing is an occasional lounge-room jam session with her boyfriend Angus Stone.
“At this stage, I am focused on my acting career,” says the LA-based actor, who got her first big overseas break as a sexually voracious alien in 2009′s Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen.
Such single-mindedness goes some way to explaining why Lucas doesn’t actually sing, as is implied, on Lucas and Lukas’s Made For You – the clip is in fact an unorthodox viral marketing campaign, launched by European band The Gift.
The pair were hired to generate a bit of buzz before the outfit’s upcoming album release.
And although the former Home And Away star took singing lessons growing up, and learnt to play guitar for a small role opposite Joel Edgerton in The Waiting City, neither talent was required by her character in A Heartbeat Away.

If all the Green Lantern goodness doesn’t convince you to go WonderCon, maybe this will:
Immortals, the Tarsem Singh-directed Greek god epic from Relativity, will have its first-look at the San Francisco event, which runs April 1 to 3.
Also there will be some of the cast, including Henry Cavill, the British actor recently cast as Superman. Also on tap are Luke Evans, Kellan Lutz and Isabel Lucas. Singh will be there as will the producers, Gianni Nunnari and Mark Canton.
Details are still being worked but April 2 will be the day footage will be shown and the cast does a panel.
In case you’re wondering what Immortals is all about, here’s the synopsis:
The brutal and bloodthirsty King Hyperion (Mickey Rourke) and his murderous Heraklion army are rampaging across Greece in search of the long lost Bow of Epirus. With the invincible Bow, the king will be able to overthrow the Gods of Olympus and become the undisputed master of his world. With ruthless efficiency, Hyperion and his legions destroy everything in their wake, and it seems nothing will stop the evil king’s mission.
As village after village is obliterated, a stonemason named Theseus (Cavill) vows to avenge the death of his mother in one of Hyperion’s raids. When Theseus meets the Sybelline Oracle, Phaedra (Freida Pinto), her disturbing visions of the young man’s future convince her that he is the key to stopping the destruction. With her help, Theseus assembles a small band of followers and embraces his destiny in a final desperate battle for the future of humanity.
The movie is slated to open Nov. 11.

Entertainment Weekly have recently shown off some new stills from Isabel’s upcoming Greek epic movie Immortals (actually, only one of them is ‘new’ – the other 3 were released some time ago), although sadly still none of them feature Ms Lucas. The new shot is of Kellan Lutz as Poseidon, and you can view it at dreadcentral.com.
I really hope we get our first look at Izzy in this movie soon! I can’t wait to see her as Athena.
At the start of the year I posted articles about Immortals being one of the most anticipated movies of 2011, and we now have a few more similar lists, with A Heartbeat Away being included as well! Looks like Immortals may be a big one …
The Notable Films Of 2011: Part Six
A Heartbeat Away
Opens: 2011
Cast: Sebastian Gregory, William Zappa, Tammy McIntosh, Colin Friels, Roy Billing
Director: Gale Edwards
Summary: A young aspiring rock guitarist is forced to become the musical director of the local marching band when his father is hit by a bus just four weeks before a major competition.
Analysis: Hoping to achieve the same success that “Bran Nue Dae” had early last year, this Queensland-produced $8 million Australian comedy/musical boasts a familiar scenario that hopes to draw in local audiences not keen on the limited release art house fare that constitutes most Australian films released locally. Certainly the trailer feels like a hybrid of “Brassed Off” with a teen romance musical about a young geek and the girl way out of his league.
Acclaimed stage director Gale Edwards makes her directorial debut on the feel good film so one would expect the musical numbers to be staged impressively, how she’ll do with the rest of the story we’ll have to wait and see. Hoyts Distribution will be giving the film a wide release across Australia in March, and its fortunes internationally will probably depend a lot upon how that goes.

Ramping up its distribution arm, Relativity Media will take over distribution from Universal and release its 3D Greek mythology actioner “Immortals” on Nov. 11 in association with Universal Pictures Intl.
U had been set to distribute the pic domestically on that date. Pic’s directed by Tarsem Singh and stars Henry Cavill, Stephen Dorff, Isabel Lucas, Freida Pinto, Luke Evans, Kellan Lutz, John Hurt and Mickey Rourke.
Relativity changed the title in April — when Singh began shooting — from “War of the Gods” to “Immortals.” Story follows the ruthless King Hyperion (played by Rourke) leading his bloodthirsty army on a murderous rampage across Greece to find a weapon that will destroy humanity. Theseus (Cavill), a mortal chosen by Zeus, must lead the fight against Hyperion with the fate of mankind and the gods at stake.
“Immortals” is produced by Mark Canton, Gianni Nunnari and Ryan Kavanaugh, and exec produced by Tucker Tooley, Tommy Turtle and Jeff G. Waxman.
The distribution switch on “Immortals” from Universal, announced Tuesday, comes six months after Relativity absorbed Overture Films’ distribution and marketing operation and a week after Relativity released its first inhouse production, “Season of the Witch.”
Relativity’s upcoming slate includes “Take Me Home Tonight,” which stars Topher Grace and Anna Faris and is set for a March launch; “Limitless,” which stars Bradley Cooper, Abbie Cornish and Robert De Niro and is set for a March 18 opening; and an untitled David R. Ellis 3D shark thriller set to debut Sept. 2.
Predicting the biggest films of any year is a foolhardy venture. The fortunes of a movie as it develops can turn on studio whim, the news agenda on release day, or even the weather. Throw in the unpredictable effects of the biggest economic crisis in living memory and you have a virtually unforeseeable box office landscape.
There are films currently scheduled for release that will be delayed or cancelled for budgetary reasons. There are other movies which are being developed ‘under the radar’ and will only appear on publicity schedules later in the year. Only a fool would try to foretell the big movie hits of 2011. Guess what I’m going to do.
41: The Immortals
Tarsem Singh, the Indian director responsible for the astounding visual tableaux of The Cell in 2000 has made only one film since – the wildly ambitious but commercially disappointing fantasy drama The Fall. Undeterred, he is painting again with a very broad brush with The Immortals. It’s a 3D fantasy epic based on Greek myth that stars Mickey Rourke, John Hurt and Slumdog Millionaire actress Frieda Pinto. Henry Cavill will be the smouldering matinée idol at the centre of what I am sure will be a very pretty-looking film. Commercially, The Immortals could go either way but for painters, students of cinema, or commercial directors looking for new ideas to steal The Immortals will be essential viewing.

In a recent interview with NYMag.com Stephen Dorff spoke about the upcoming Immortals. He doesn’t mention Isabel, but what he does say gives us more of an idea about the movie itself.
Too bad we have to wait almost a year to see it!!
You’ve got Immortals coming out next November, directed by Tarsem. His visuals are off the charts, but what is it like to be an actor in the midst of all that?
The guy’s a visual master, and if you look at his reel, it’s like, “Wow, he’s unreal.” I think this is his big shot, because he hasn’t made a movie in a while since The Fall, which he paid for himself — beautiful movie, didn’t totally make a lot of sense, [but] gorgeous to look at. This one, I think, is hopefully going to deliver something that we don’t normally see from the sword-and-sandal picture, whether it be Troy or Clash of the Titans. It’s definitely in that genre, so we’re all naked and wearing leather.
Who are you playing?
Henry Cavill’s younger than me, so he plays, like, the Luke Skywalker. Freida Pinto plays the oracle who becomes the love interest to Henry. I play the Han Solo of the movie, this slave who hooks up with them, and then we all go against Mickey Rourke, who’s the bad guy. I’m a little older than Henry and I’m flirting with Freida, and I’ve got all the good lines in the movie.
I heard that Tarsem has all the actors on insane workout regimens to build eight-pack stomachs and huge bodies.
Yeah. Funny enough, I kind of trained with a separate group, because I didn’t like the way they were training some of these guys. It all felt like they were giving some of these actors fake breast implants. It was a lot of “tit acting,” and the opposite of what I think you’d want on film, so I kind of went against that grain and brought my team up there. But yeah, we’re pretty much naked in the movie.
FilmShaft.com quote actor Luke Evans talking about the upcoming Immortals, in which Isabel plays Athena. There’s no mention of Izzy, but he gives some details on the CGI effects and feel of the movie, and it sounds exciting!
“He created this world with amazing an amazing CGI department and artists, and he created these amazing sets that we worked on, that were so expansive. And, we were able to see on screen how these worlds looked, even if we were working on green screen, which we did quite often. We could see everything. Nothing was going to be done in post. It had all been developed. The graphics team even left just after we started shooting because their work had been done. The whole world that Tarsem was shooting us on was already done. I think he was quoted as saying that this is going to be a cross between Fight Club and a Caravaggio painting, and I believe that’s exactly what it will look like. There was a big battle scene which ends with a lot of death, and it took your breath away because of the coloring, the way it had been set up and the set that it was on. It just looked unbelievable.”
The first photos from Isabel’s upcoming movie Immortals have been released online! Unfortunately, they do not feature Isabel (who plays Athena), but you can see Henry Cavill, Freida Pinto and Mickey Rourke in action! View the photos at GeeksOfDoom.com.
More details have been released about the film –
- It will be released in 2D and 3D
- The film hits cinemas in November 11th 2011 (11/11/11!)
- Besides Isabel, the final main cast is made up of Henry Cavill as Theseus, Mickey Rourke as villain King Hyperion, Freida Pinto as Phaedra, Stephen Dorff as Stavros, Kellan Lutz as Poseidon, Luke Evans as Zeus and John Hurt as Old Zeus.
- Director Tarsem Singh recently spoke about the film, saying:
The Gods are like superheroes so we can kind of like Batman does, not Superman, where you jump from up high and not get hurt when landing down. But he can’t fly up. So we have the same definition for Gods … The movie’s got fantastical fighting … brutal and two people in a confined space…. It’s turning into, basically, Caravaggio meets Fight Club. It’s a really hardcore action film done in Renaissance painting style. I want to see how that goes; it’s turned into something really cool.
And the plot is as follows:
A mythological tale set in war-torn ancient Greece where the young warrior, Theseus, leads his men into battle with the immortal Greek Gods to defeat evil and the powerful elder gods the Titans in order to save mankind.
