Isabel filming “Electric Slide” in Los Angeles now

Oct 26 • by Jess • No CommentsElectric Slide, Rumoured Role

Congratulations to Isabel for landing another big Hollywood role! I’ve just come across some reports that say she is filming a new movie in Los Angeles entitled Electric Slide, and her management Meissner Management confirm this on their Facebook page. (Note the picture they’ve used for the information on that Facebook page is sadly not from the set, it’s actually from Earth Hour earlier this year).

This independent drama will co-star Jim Sturgess, Chloe Sevigny and Patricia Arquette, and will be written and directed by Tristan Patterson. (Ewan McGregor and Carey Mulligan were previously attached to star). The synospsis is as follows:

Based on the article “The Yankee Bandit: The Life and Times of Eddie Dodson, World’s Great Bank Robber”, written by Timothy Ford and published in Gear Magazine, “The Electric Slide” tells the true story of suave hipster and celebrity-magnet Eddie Dodson, who in 1980s Los Angeles owned and ran one of the city’s most stylish art deco furniture stores. Celebrities flocked to buy the latest pieces and Eddie was living the high life along with the Hollywood elite.

But when Eddie met cool and unimpressed Jenny, he decided to do the most outrageous thing he could think of to win her attention— he robbed a bank. Eddie discovered in himself the uncanny ability to charm pretty bank tellers into emptying their drawers of cash and getting away with it. And Jenny discovered that a boyfriend who robbed banks was about as hot as it got.

Over a period of months, Eddie and Jenny robbed over 70 banks in the Los Angeles area, often narrowly escaping the increasingly frustrated FBI. When the authorities interviewed the tellers who had been robbed, each of them described Eddie “like a movie star, the most charming man they had ever met.” The media, jumping on the story, dubbed him “The Gentleman Bandit”. But Eddie’s criminal lucky streak would not last forever as the FBI closed in and angry loan sharks with unpaid debts threatened his life.

Even better, this casting call advert says that Isabel is the film’s #2 “so she will be working quite a few days” … I am presuming this means she will be 2nd lead (behind Jim Sturgess), which is the character of Jenny, going by the synopsis! This is great news for Isabel, and for us fans.

Updates on “Careful What You Wish For”

Almost a year ago it was reported Isabel had signed on to star in a new thriller movie entitled Careful What You Wish For, and a couple of months ago I found more details on it. We now have updates on the project, as it won financing from a studio during the current Toronto Film Festival. Below are some articles about it with all the details.

The plot synopsis is as follows:

The film focuses on Doug Martin, a self-conscious high school student who gets more than he bargained for when he starts a torrid affair with Lena (Lucas), the young, lonely wife of a wealthy businessman renting the lake house next door. After a serious crime rocks the vacation town in which they live, Doug is let in on a devastating secret and suddenly finds himself a suspect.

Hyde Park-Image Nation, Troika Pictures and Merced Media Partners are financing and producing Careful What You Wish For, a thriller to be directed by Elizabeth Allen (Ramona and Beezus, Aquamarine). Written by Chris Frisina, it will star Isabel Lucas (Transformers 2, Immortals). Plot centers on a high school student who gets a lot more than he bargained for when he’s drawn into an affair with the young wife of a wealthy businessman. It’s described as being along the lines of Basic Instinct and Body Heat. Lucas’ recent roles have included the upcoming Terrence Malick film Knight Of Cups, the remake of Red Dawn and The Loft. Casting for other major roles is underway and The film is slated to begin in the first quarter of 2013. Producers are Hyde Park’s Ashok Amritraj and Troika’s Robert Stein, Michael A. Helfant and Bradley Gallo, and Myriad Pictures’ Kirk D’Amico. Exec producers are William Gallo and Merced Media Partners’ Raj Singh, Stuart Brown and Kevin Frakes. Hyde Park International is handling worldwide rights at Toronto.

Two new projects for Isabel?

I was just browsing Isabel’s official CV through Meissner Management, her management company, and discovered it is listing two new projects for her.

Tormenta is listed as being in production. Isabel would play Molly in the film to be directed by Uli Edel and produced by Essential Entertainment. I’ve done a quick search but cannot find any more information on this project. It’s not listen on the director’s IMDB page.

Careful What You Wish For is also listed as being in production, and to be produced by Michael Helfont and Robert Stein at Troika Pictures, and directed by Elizabeth Allen. Isabel’s characters name is Lena. Isabel’s involvement in this film was mentioned by Hollywood-Treatment.com last October, but I haven’t read anything about it since. Various sites reported on the film’s progress last year, and you can read them below, as well as a synopsis. IMDB is listing the film, and says that the film began production in April of this year.

Eighteen year old Doug gets more than he bargained for when he starts having an affair with Lena, the young wife of an investment banker renting the lake house next door for the summer. The husband’s accidental death reveals a substantial life insurance policy. Everyone is suspect in this edgy and sexy thriller reminiscent of “Body Heat” and “The Postman Always Rings Twice”.

Natalie Portman to Star in Terrence Malick’s Next Two Films

Feb 8 • by Jess • 2 CommentsRumoured Role

Natalie Portman has committed to her first two movie roles since winning the Best Actress Oscar for Black Swan and taking maternity leave. Portman is joining the casts of the Terrence Malick films Knight Of The Cups, and Lawless. Portman will join Christian Bale, Cate Blanchett and Isabel Lucas in Knight of the Cups, which shoots this summer. She will follow by starring with Ryan Gosling, Bale, Blanchett, Rooney Mara and Haley Bennett in Lawless, the film Malick shoots in the fall. It will be Portman’s first time working with Malick, whose The Tree of Life won the Palme d’Or at Cannes and is nominated for Best Picture and Best Director Oscars.

The addition of Portman certainly will create some buzz for both Malick films when the wheeling and dealing begins at EFM in Berlin tomorrow. FilmNation is selling international territories and CAA reps both films for domestic rights. The market hasn’t even started and Deadline has broken stories that Denzel Washington and Mark Wahlberg lead the package for the Emmett/Furla Films and Universal co-financed 2 Guns; that Joseph Gordon-Levitt will make his directing debut on a comedy he’ll star in with Scarlett Johansson for IM Global; and that The Devil Inside followup WER will be sold by Sierra/Affinity, with FilmDistrict now an equity player in the film with Incentive Filmed Entertainment. All those films will have action in Berlin and it is looking like there will be a lot of good product. My colleague Nancy Tartaglione will be on the ground in Berlin and Deadline will be all over the market. Portman is repped by CAA and Brillstein Entertainment Partners.

Isabel cast in Terrence Malick film, alongside Christian Bale

Nov 1 • by Jess • No CommentsKnight Of Cups, Rumoured Role

New reports today are saying Isabel has been cast in another movie, and this is another BIG one! Terrence Malick is a heavy-weight and very credible director and the same can be said for her co-stars. This is a really big land for Isabel, so a massive congrats to her! I’m really excited to hear more about this project … and to see what else Izzy has lined up.

Bale, Blanchett to star in two Terrence Malick pics

Christian Bale and Cate Blanchett are both set to star in two upcoming Terrence Malick films, both of which will be launched to buyers through Glen Basner’s FilmNation at the American Film Market this week.

”Lawless,” will topline Ryan Gosling, Bale, Blanchett, Rooney Mara (”The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo”) and Haley Bennett (”Marley and Me”).

Malick’s second pic, ”Knight of Cups,” will star Bale, Blanchett and Isabel Lucas (”Immortals,” ”Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen”).

Both pics are currently in pre-production and will shoot back-to-back in 2012. Details of the two plots are being kept under wraps but both titles will be separate narratives.

Sarah Green and Nicolas Gonda will produce both pics. Both Gonda and Green produced a slew of Malick’s recent titles including ”The Tree of Life,” ”The New World” and the upcoming as-yet-untitled love story project from Malick toplining Ben Affleck, Rachel Adams, Javier Bardem and Rachel Weisz, for which FilmNation is also handling international sales.

Pic is currently in post and has already sold to a number of territories including Studiocanal in Blighty and Germany, Roadshow Films in Australia and New Zealand, VVS Films in Canada, Vertigo Films in Spain and Metropolitan Film in Gaul.

The announcement marks a continued relationship between FilmNation and Malick. Basner remarked that ”FilmNation couldn’t be happier to continue to act as Terrence’s international sales agency.”

Malick’s latest duo of pics will be repped domestically by CAA.

FilmNation is also handling international sales on Sean Penn’s ”The Comedian,” toplining Robert De Niro and Kristen Wiig and Jeff Nichols’ ”Mud” starring Matthew McConaughey and Reese Witherspoon.

Additionally, it is shopping Christian Bale starrer ”The Flowers of War,” a $90 million Chinese epic helmed by Zhang Yimou. Footage was unveiled to buyers in Toronto in September.

In Cannes earlier this year, FilmNation announced that it was fully financing its first pic, an untitled thriller from Paranormal Activity creator Oren Peli.

New film for Isabel – “Love Written in Blood”?

Aug 5 • by Jess • No CommentsRumoured Role

Whilst browsing Isabel’s IMDB profile, I noticed a new film listed under her Filmography. IMDB isn’t exactly known for it’s reliability or accuracy these days, so we’ll take Isabel’s rumoured involvement with a pinch of salt for now. Here are some details though:

Love Written in Blood is a drama/thriller/horror listed as being released in September 2012. Erik Magnusson is writing and directing, with Rhys Malone as a co-director, and Andres Heinz a co-writer. Aaron Johnson, Amanda Seyfried, and Xavier Samuel are listed as co-starring. The plot reads as:

The movie depicts a couple (portrayed by actors Aaron Johnson and Gabriel Liotta) in a love-hate relationship. The couple repeatedly fight, break things, steal, and make up again, with scenes flashing back to happier times in their relationship.

Filming is said to have started in England in the middle of July. We know Isabel was in Belgium filming Loft for several weeks last month, so maybe we’ll see her catching a flight across the Atlantic in the coming weeks, if this rumour is true.

See more on IMDB’s page for the movie.

We’ll keep you posted on Isabel’s involvement with this movie.

Isabel Lucas climbs into ‘Loft’

May 21 • by Jess • 1 Comment »Career, Films, Loft, Rumoured Role

Even more exciting news for us this evening – Isabel is rumoured to be joining the cast of a new thriller movie, entitled The Loft! Let’s hope it pans out … we’ll keep you posted!

Anonymous Content has found the first of several leading ladies for its edgy thriller “Loft,” as Aussie actress Isabel Lucas is in negotiations to join the ensemble cast.

Patrick Wilson, James Marsden, Wentworth Miller and “Modern Family’s” Eric Stonestreet are set to star in Erik Van Looy’s English-language remake of his own 2008 Belgian pic.

Indie follows five married friends who share a loft where each of them bring their mistresses. When the body of an unknown woman is found in the loft, they begin to suspect one another of murder.

Lucas will play “Sarah,” a naive young beauty who unexpectedly comes into the lives of the five friends.

“A Nightmare on Elm St.” scribe Wesley Strick is adapting Bart De Pauw’s original screenplay. Anonymous Content’s Steve Golin, Paul Green, Matt DeRoss and Adam Shulman will produce along with original “Loft” producer Hilde DeLaere of Belgian banner Woestijnvis. Production is expected to begin later this spring.

Lucas, best known for her villainous turn in “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen,” recently appeared in HBO’s miniseries “The Pacific.” Thesp will soon be seen playing the Greek goddess Athena in Relativity Media’s “Immortals,” and also co-stars in MGM’s “Red Dawn” remake alongside Chris Hemsworth and Josh Hutcherson. Lucas is set to be honored with the Female Star of Tomorrow award at tonight’s Young Hollywood Awards.

Lucas is repped by UTA and by Meissner Management in Australia.

Relativity Media announces official title of Immortals

Apr 8 • by Jess • No CommentsImmortals, Rumoured Role

Relativity Media announced today that Immortals will be the official title of its Greek mythology tale previously called War of Gods.

The highly anticipated Immortals follows the mythological tale of the young warrior Theseus, who leads his men into battle with the immortal Greek gods to defeat evil and the powerful elder gods of the Titans in order to save mankind. Tarsem Singh directs the film that began shooting in Montreal this week.

It was also announced that John Hurt and Isabel Lucas have joined Henry Cavill, Stephen Dorff, Luke Evans, Kellan Lutz, Joseph Morgan, Freida Pinto and Mickey Rourke in the cast. Hurt will portray the earthly manifestation of the god Zeus, who acts as a mentor and teacher to the young warrior Theseus (Cavill). Isabel Lucas was brought onto Immortals as Athena, the daughter of Zeus who finds her loyalty tested as the war between the gods and Titans looms.

Distributed by Universal Pictures, Immortals will be produced by 300 partners Gianni Nunnari of Hollywood Gang Productions, Mark Canton of Atmosphere Entertainment MM and Ryan Kavanaugh, CEO of Relativity Media. Jason Keller penned the most recent draft of the script. An earlier version was written by Christian Gudegast, based on an original screenplay by Charley and Vlas Parlapanides.

Hurt recently completed director Rowan Joffe’s Brighton Rock, opposite Helen Mirren. Last year, he was seen reprising his role as Quentin Crisp in An Englishman in New York, as well as appearing with Ray Winstone and Tom Wilkinson in 44 Inch Chest. The actor recently wrapped his role in the next installment of the Harry Potter franchise, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part I. Hurt is represented by John Crosby, ICM and Independent Talent.

Lucas recently starred in Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen and Daybreakers. She will soon star in Red Dawn and recently wrapped production on the Australian films Kin and A Heartbeat Away. The actress is represented by UTA and Meissner Management.

Universal Pictures has set a November 11, 2011, release date for Immortals.

Isabel to star in Dawn Of War?

Apr 2 • by Jess • No CommentsRumoured Role

A couple of sites are mentioning that Isabel has been cast in the Greek-myth inspired Dawn Of War. As one of the confirmed cast has named her directly, her involvement seems quite likely, but as always, we’ll look out for official confirmation and any further news will of course be posted about here for you!

‘Clash Of The Titans’ Star Goes Greek Again With ‘Dawn Of War’
With “Clash of the Titans” landing in theaters Friday, we hopped on the phone with fast-rising British heartthrob Luke Evans, who called in from the Montreal set of the soon-to-shoot film “Dawn of War.” He was eager to talk about the next big Greek-myth-inspired blockbuster and reveal the two newest actors to join the cast.

“We have the very beautiful Isabel Lucas who is playing Athena, my daughter,” explained Evans, who stars in the film as Zeus. “She is stunning. And John Hurt plays me as an old man. I mean, does it get any better than that? That’s uber-cool!” he beamed. “In addition, we have Mickey Rourke, Stephen Dorff, Henry Cavill, Freida Pinto.”

The “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen” hottie and respected “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull” veteran are the latest in a long line of impressive stars to join the high-profile flick, which has flirted with various names (“God of War,” “War of the Gods”) but rarely been questioned in terms of its potential brilliance.
