Support Sea Shepherd

Sea Shepherd Conservation Society (SSCS) is an international non-profit, marine wildlife conservation organization. Our mission is to end the destruction of habitat and slaughter of wildlife in the world's oceans in order to conserve and protect ecosystems and species.

Sea Shepherd could not think of a more brave, passionate and dedicated activist and friend of the whales, than Isabel Lucas, also known for her role in Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. Isabel has stepped up for duty for the oceans numerous times, including raising international awareness by attempting to stop annual slaughter of dolphins in Taiji, Japan in 2007.

Isabel Quoted
"I do feel I am in a unique position where I can use my public status to draw attention to things that matter to me and hopefully a lot of other people as well. I don't want to push my ideas on other people. Everyone should think for themselves. "

As previously reported, The Pacific is now airing every Sunday night in the US on HBO. And as also reported, Isabel will definitely be seen in episode #3, which airs tonight! So, US fans, sit yourself down in front of your TV at 9pm (or set your recorder ;) ) to see Isabel star as Gwen in the war drama series.

I’m hoping to have caps up for you tomorrow, or if not then then asap this week (as mentioned on our Twitter I’m a little busy offline at the moment).

March 11, 2010   •  Category: Media Alert, Mt Kilimanjaro Climb 2010, Videos1 Comment

“Summit on the Summit: Kilimanjaro” doesn’t premiere on MTV until Sunday at 9 p.m. ET, but you can get a sneak peek of the documentary, which follows Kenna and his team’s treacherous trek up Africa’s highest mountain, right now.

In February, Kenna, along with fellow musicians Lupe Fiasco and Santigold, actors Jessica Biel, Emile Hirsch and Isabel Lucas, and a team of scientists and experienced mountain guides, climbed to the peak of Kilimanjaro — some 19,000 feet above sea level — with the goal of raising awareness about the global clean-water crisis. It’s an epidemic that hits close to home for the Ethiopian-born artist.

“When I was younger, my dad pointed out Kilimanjaro on a huge atlas. It stood in my mind as one of the wonders of the world,” he said. “This climb is dedicated to my father. As a child in Ethiopia, he lost his brother and lost his friends and family to water-borne diseases. A billion people in the world don’t have clean water. I had to do something about it. For me it’s personal. I could have been one of those kids. I needed to come up with something that would command attention. And the only thing I could think of that was that massive was climbing Kilimanjaro.”

Thanks to ‘M’ for this alert!

Isabel is nominated for the ‘Aussie Superstar Of The Year’ award at the 2010 Dolly Teen Choice Awards in Australia! She is nominated alongside other rising Aussie stars such as Guy Sebastian, Miranda Kerr and Liam Hemsworth. You can vote for Miss Lucas RIGHT HERE – her category is on the 3rd and final page.

I think this is only magazine-based awards, as in there will be no event/red carpet show. The Dolly site does say that there will be related features in their magazine though, so if you live in Australia make sure you keep an eye on that magazine! I’m not sure when winners will be announced, but I’ll be keeping a look out for further details, and will let you know!

If anyone from Australia can contribute scans of any coverage of Isabel and these awards from Dolly magazine then please contact me! All credit will be given :)

The Pacific Isabel’s upcoming TV mini-series The Pacific is gearing up for a release, and with that comes new photos and information! To start with, a new still has been added to our Gallery – it’s from the same scene as the other still we have and doesn’t really show us much, although it is pretty.

We also have some news on a UK air date – The Pacific will premiere in the UK on Monday 5th April, at 9pm on Sky Movies Premiere/HD. There are some new ‘official’ links to promote the UK broadcast – Sky Movies’ The Pacific Site &
@ThePacificOnSky on Twitter. Keep checking both not just for UK related stuff, but for interviews, photos and videos etc.

Back over the Atlantic, we know that the series will premiere on HBO in the US on Sunday 14th March. Wikipedia has a list of other known international broadcast dates.

Visit the official mini-series site at hbo.com/the-pacific, and go back through our The Pacific news category for trailers and other info.

Beneath the cut (Click here to read more…) is a synopsis/short critics comment from the Sky Movies promotion.

The Pacific is featured in the new Sky subscriber’s magazine, with an article/interview on the upcoming series. No mention of Isabel, but still an interesting read:

The Pacific: “It’s about the cost of war on a human being”

From the makers of the brilliant Band Of Brothers, Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg, The Pacific is an epic 10-part series exploding exclusively onto Sky Movies Premiere in stunning HD from 5 April. Sky Movies Magazine talks exclusively to Hanks and his team to find out what it takes to produce the television event of the year…

The Path To War

The Pacific 05Based on the real-life memoirs of two Marines – Robert Leckie and Eugene Sledge – who fought against Japan as part of the 1st Marine Division during WW2, The Pacific has taken more than three years to make. But it’s been a labour of love for Tom Hanks and his fellow executive producers Steven Spielberg and Gary Goetzman…

GARY GOETZMAN: Steven had felt, while making Band Of Brothers, that if that show turned out how we hoped, it would be great to represent the war in the Pacific. We didn’t really think about the timing, we just kept chugging along.

February 11, 2010   •  Category: Media Alert, Mt Kilimanjaro Climb 2010, Videos0 Comments

MTV released the first trailer for its upcoming documentary on the recent celeb-stacked Kilimanjaro climb that raised awareness about the need for clean drinking water in impoverished parts of the world. One thing is clear after watching the footage. This was no cakewalk.

Jessica Biel, Lupe Fiasco, Emile Hirsch, Isabel Lucas and other celebs all appear as if they’ve been pushed near the breaking point as they trudge up the side of the imposing mountain with a climbing party of roughly 300 people. Headaches, scrapes, bruises and exhaustion all look par for the course for the climbers. MTV plans to air the entire documentary March 14.

Ethiopian-born musician Kenna organized the climb after learning that his father had suffered from water-borne illnesses throughout much of his childhood, and many Ethiopians still travel long distances to secure clean drinking water. Kenna conceived of the socially-conscious Summit on the Summit after failing to climb the formidable mountain in 2007.

In a timely show of support, Hollywood star and anti-whaling activist Isabel Lucas has recorded a new ad for the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society encouraging people to donate to the group. The ad is scheduled to air on Australian television networks tonight.

Sea Shepherd’s Australian director Jeff Hansen told The Daily Telegraph that the ad was filmed in Melbourne last winter but needed a high-profile supporter to do a voice-over and appear at the end. “Isabel was out here late last year and appeared on Rove and said she would love to support us,” he said.

Hansen added that the ad had not cost the group “a cent” – because Lucas and its creators had given their time for free.

The 24-year-old actress is currently with Jessica Biel, Emile Hirsch, and other celebrities on a climb up Mt. Kilimanjaro to raise awareness of the worldwide water crisis.

Isabel is featured in the brand new February 2010 issue of Vanity Fair! She’s included in a feature on standout up-and-coming actresses and there is a stunning new photo of her! View the photo in our gallery, and read the article on our press page.

Isabel Lucas
Perhaps you remember her work in Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen? Ah yes, she was the android who mounted Shia LaBeouf and strangled him with her tongue. But seriously, Isabel Lucas has a higher purpose. The 24-year-old Australian has worked on irrigation projects in Namibia, raised money for orphanages in India, and paddled out into the Pacific Ocean to combat whaling off of Japan, where she is now wanted for interfering with global commerce. We’ll soon get to see this more soulful side of Lucas in The Pacific, an HBO mini-series about the American-Japanese conflict during World War II, produced by Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks.
